‘Iron Man 3′ Poster, New Photos & Additional Story Details (Updated)

Just as fans enjoy the end of “Phase One” of the Marvel cinematic universe with The Avengers releasing on home video last month, the marketing campaign is kicking up for Phase Two. Yesterday, the first few seconds of official Iron Man 3 footage released to tease tomorrow’s unveiling of the full-length Iron Man 3 trailer. And today, a series of new stills from the film help fill in the gap.
There are six new [Update: 7 + a poster] shots in total, including the first officially released image of War Machine’s new Iron Patriot-themed armor design, built by the air force.
Two of the stills come from the official Australia/New Zealand Facebook page for The Avengers and the other four come exclusively from USA Today. As we can see from the stills and from yesterday’s trailer preview, Pepper Potts is playing a very important role in the Stark-centric solo affair.
The shot of Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) holding an older Iron Man helmet is from a scene after Mandarin attacks Stark’s mansion with helicopters and – from the early trailer descriptions – may be shown in the full trailer tomorrow.

Adding to the official Iron Man 3 synopsis released last week, Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige explains to USA Today that the threequel takes place a few months after the events of The Avengers where The Mandarin attacks.
“He basically loses all of his toys and is forced to just use his mind to rebuild and to face his biggest enemy… He’s ultimately the engineering superhero. He’s so charming and so flamboyant that sometimes you forget that’s what he is: ‘Hey, kids, learn this stuff and you can maybe build an Iron Man suit.’ ”
“The goal with Iron Man 3 is to again prove that all of our single heroes are as interesting alone as they are when they’re all together in an Avengers movie.”
“In this movie, we are again going to see him stripped down more than we’ve ever seen him since he was in that cave, again with his back against the wall and with nothing but his wits to help him survive.”
Excited to meet the Mandarin?
