The latest in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series will be released in the winter of 2012 on the Nintendo 3DS. As you’ve probably heard, the game, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Magna Gate and the Infinite Labyrinth, will be completely rendered in 3D. It looks like the models that are being used for the Pokédex 3D will be used in this game as well. You can watch a trailer here.
Many
aspects of the game will be kept the same as those in previous
installments to the series. The game will stay true to its rogue-like
genre in terms of gameplay. It will also start with the same
premise—that you, the player, were somehow transformed into a Pokémon
and suddenly wake up in a world full of Pokémon.
The
Pokémon you can play as are Pikachu, Axew, Snivy, Oshawott, and Tepig.
Thus far, it’s assumed that your primary partner Pokémon will be one of
those types as well.
Throughout
the course of the game, you’ll still accept quests and explore
dungeons. However, this time, there is a new way to access dungeons,
called the Magna Gates. These gates are activated using the 3DS camera.
Just point the camera at any remotely round object, and this object will
serve as the “entrance” to a new dungeon. The dungeons are randomly
generated and will be different every time you enter.
Possible entrances to dungeons.
You
will still be able to befriend Pokémon in the dungeons, and the
dungeons will still be filled with items, puzzles, and traps. The story
in Infinite Labyrinth is said to be even more dramatic than the previous ones in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, which already have comparatively complex and touching stories compared to the rest of the franchise.
As previously reported, Pokémon from Black/White 2
will be included in this game. By my speculation, the fact that it’s
the sequel that is specifically mentioned probably means that certain
legendaries will be making appearances in the game that weren’t present
in the original Black/White.
